Overview

This project is a continuation of the "Group.y App" project, an application designed to find study groups or groups with various interests and categories. In this redesign project, I was tasked with enhancing the aesthetics and visual design quality of my previous work. I chose to redesign three screens, namely the Home page, Group page, and Explore page.

Goals

This project aims to modify the visual design from the old design. The new design is expected to have a different and more appealing aesthetic and layouts, while retaining the same basic functionality as the features in the old design.

Process

New Design Exploration

To discover a new visual design theme for the "Group.y" application, I explored and experimented using various design themes to determine the most suitable one. The designs I explored included colourful, pastel colours, and monochrome. I also created sketches for several layout options that could be used for the new design. After conducting research and receiving feedback, I decided to choose a simple design from the monochrome theme but modified it into a Geometric and bold Design that incorporates another bold colour, which is yellow.

Visual Research

After determining the design theme I will focus on, the Geometric & Bold Design, I conducted visual research by collecting images into a moodboard. This mood board contains design interface inspirations, geometric shapes and arts, and various elements with a similar theme, aiming to facilitate visual explanations for redesigning the "Group.y" application.

Design

Style Tile

From the visual research, I developed a style tile as a guide for creating the new design. I chose three main colours, which consist of black, white, and bold yellow. I also revamped the icon design by creating my own icons based on the suitable style and colours. Additionally, typography styles, buttons, and cards will be used in the new version of the "Group.y" application.

Final Design

Based on the previously designed Style Tile, I designed three screens of the "Group.y" application: the Home page, Group page, and Explore page. In addition to selecting bold and minimalist fonts and designs, I also incorporated decorative elements in geometric shapes that align with my design theme. I transformed the visual elements, originally in the form of images and photos, into simple geometric shapes to visualise each category on the Explore page. This is the final design of the latest version of the "Group.y" application.
