Overview

This project is a 3D animated play-set targeting children aged 3 to 6 years. In this university assignment project, I will be designing a 3D 'pretend play-set' in the form of animation and also a short advertisement that can appeal to kids. In this task, I can create any play-set as long as it has moving and engaging elements for children. Besides the play-set, this project also requires me to create a short video to advertise this product as a toy with a box as its packaging.

Goals

This project aims to design a children's toy playset in a digital or 3D form and create animations that help bring this pretend playset to life. A short video in GIF format also aims to promote this playset for children.

Process

Inspirations

I gathered some images of low poly 3D elements, and I also look for toys and kids play-set that can move to help me browse for ideas and seek inspiration for the project. After browsing, I decided to combine the Train Track and Castle toys into a single play-set, called “The Castle Track Play-set”.

Sketches

With the inspiration images and the concept idea, I began to sketch the layout before I built the 3D version to help me align everything.

Final Design

Play-set Design

I designed all elements one by one using Cinema4D. The elements include a palace, walls, ground, a railway track, a train, a small lake, trees, and clouds. The 3D style I employed is the low poly modelling style. The colour scheme I'm aiming for the castle building is pastels and soft colours to evoke a "Princess" vibe.
